Xolo has launched some really good devices recently out of which Xolo Q1010i has become matter of curiosity with its good looks and high end specifications. Though, we are not sure about the future update of this device, Xolo should prepare at least one major update for this device to keep it alive in the market. We decided to do a full Xolo Q1010i review for you. This article will cover every necessary detail to convince you whether you should buy this device or not. So, lets get started with the box contents.
Xolo Q1010i Review
Inside the box
Inside the Xolo Q1010i box we have the device itself covered with thin plastic, a leather (artificial) flip cover, travel charger, data cable, USB OTG cable and earphones. Apart from these stuffs the box contains warranty booklet and user guide. Everything that is necessary is already present inside the box except screen guard which you would perhaps buy from local market.
There are two things that has surprised us. The box contains OTG cable as well as free Flip cover.
With its sleek dimensions Xolo Q1010i has impressed us enough. The device measures 72.2×143.6×8.3 mm and has matte back made of plastic, though it feels good in hand. The back cover is flexible and the whole device weights 156 gms which is okay considering its display size of 5 inches. The flip cover makes device sturdier and comfortable to hold.
The buttons are placed at right spots, volume rocker at left and power button at right, which are comfortable to use and press without any problems. There is 3.5 mm audio jack on the top and micro USB port at the bottom.
Display and Hardware
The device comes with OGS IPS, a touchscreen technology which reduces the thickness of display. With the display size of 5 inches, Xolo Q1010i provides resolution of 1280×720 with the pixel density of 294 ppi. The touch is quite responsive and it has additional option to increase touch sensitivity for gloves. The viewing angles are above average and much better than some other high end smartphones out there in the market.
Coming to specs, the device is powered by Quad-core 1.3 GHz CPU, Mediatek MT6582 chipset and Mali 400 GPU coupled with 1GB of RAM which is enough to make this device fast and fluid for a normal user.
It has 8GB of internal memory out of which 1.7 GB is available for app installations and 4.39 GB is available for phone storage. It supports Micro SD cards upto 32GB and has USB OTG support which is a real treat. The device also features dual-sim capability, where both sim cards have to be micro-sim.
The device comes with Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) which now a days feels out dated. Apart from that, software on Xolo Q1010i is almost stock with some tweaks here and there. The overall look and feel is same as stock Android and nothing has changed much. Free RAM remains near about 300MB most of the time with light usage. The overall software experience is smooth and fast except some glitches on heavy usage.
Please note that this device is expected to get Android 4.4 Kitkat as listing on the Flipkart suggest that it is upgradable to Android Kitkat
Camera on Xolo Q1010i surprisingly performs well in day light and provides some really good shots. Though, front camera is below average and fails to impress us. The Video output of back camera provides very good quality in terms of both colors reproduction and details.
Primary Camera – 8 megapixels with LED flash
Secondary Camera – 2 megapixels
Xolo Q1010i has 2250 mAh battery which gives average battery backup. The device is able to sustain throughout the office hours of 9 hrs with heavy usage and one day with low to moderate use. Higher capacity battery would have been better as the device has quad core processor and huge 5 inches display but the current battery backup has satisfactorily provided 24 hours of backup with moderate usage.
Benchmarks and Gaming
Though, we really don’t care about benchmarks when it comes to performance, but still we have put this device though some popular benchmarking softwares which lead us to the following results:
|Vellamo – HTML5||1930|
|Nenamark 2||54.8 fps|
Gaming on Xolo Q1010i is pretty decent as you can play all high end games with medium to high graphics. We found Asphalt 8 and Real Racing 3 to be a bit laggy, but overall we are satisfied with the gaming performance of the device.
What I liked
- Good overall build quality
- Clear and accurate display
- High Quality Primary Camera
- USB OTG support
- Freebies out of the box (FlipCover and OTG cable)
What I don’t like
- Out dated OS (Android 4.2 Jelly Beans)
- Poor Front Camera
- Priced higher than the competition
- Battery Backup
We give thumbs up to this device and if you are looking for a device which has good looks and high end specs at low prices, just go for Xolo Q1010i. Apart from few downsides, the device is really nice. I wish it would have been priced at about Rs. 10000, that would have made it a clear winner. But in this price range there are competitors like Moto G and Micromax A114 which are already hit in the market. So, if you are looking for a device with large display and good build quality you should go with Xolo Q1010i. If you already own the device, let us know how you feel about it.
