Xiaomi holding Global Product Launch event in New Delhi on April 23

Seems like Flipkart’s split with Xiaomi has come at a bad time. It has only been a matter of few days since Xiaomi announced its breakup with Flipkart and today another big announcement has come from the company. In a surprising move company has selected India to hold the launch event of its next global smartphone launch.

The event will be held in New Delhi on April 23 and company’s website says that Xiaomi’s Founder and CEO Lei Jun will be attending the event along with President Bin Lin. And as always, Hugo Barra, Global Vice President of Xiaomi Corporation, will also be present during the launch. The news was announced today on company’s Facebook Page and it shows just how important Indian mobile market has become for Xiaomi!

This will be the first time when company will be launching a new smartphone in India ahead of all other countries, including China, where company has had a track record of launching almost all devices before launching them in other global markets.

The image shown on company’s website and in the Facebook post says nothing much about the launch, except for the headline “i IS COMING”. While company still has to launch Mi Note and Mi Note Pro in India, we should not expect either of these devices from the launch event because company’s touting this event as a “GLOBAL MI PHONE PREMIERE.” It’ll be safe to assume that the device coming that day is a new Mi phone, which may also be Mi 5 actually. However, Mi 5 too doesn’t make a lot of sense because company’s invite says “i” is coming, not Mi. Since company’s playing with our curiosity, it must be bringing something big that day!

Despite tough competition from other players (i.e. Lenovo, Motorola and Micromax Yu) in India, Xiaomi has managed to become third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world with a revenue of $12 billion and market valuation of $45 billion. It also took less than one year to become the fifth largest smartphone brand in India and proudly touted nearly three months ago that it has sold more than one million smartphones in India alone. Five months and one million smartphones – now that’s HUGE!

It’ll be interesting to see what company’s bringing next to India. We’ll be covering every news related to launch, so keep visiting us for more updates on the topic.
