Google’s first social networking website is no longer available now. It has been shut down by Google as notified earlier. Since the social network has been closed completely, you will not have any access to the data such photos. Although Google has taken a backup of all the communities and other details which will be available for them, users won’t have access to any of their data for now. Google offered three months time for users to keep the backup of their data and permanently delete their Orkut profile but now that chance is no more.
Orkut came into existence in the year 2004. This was the same year when Facebook was founded which became very popular in the next 8-10 years. Among Indian users, Orkut was very popular in its early stages and it was the first social network for all of us to have conversation with our friends by either using the scraps or using the Google Talk which was integrated within the social network platform.
May be because of Google+
So, what’s the reason behind bidding farewell to Orkut? Well, it is believed that Google+ is the real culprit here. The G+ is already doing excellent growth in comparison to the Facebook. Google tried a lot of things to garner larger number of audience with the Google+. One of their efforts was related to the integration of YouTube comments with Google+. With the mandatory integration of Google + with YouTube, Google only allowed those people with Google+ profile to comment.
Google now is planning to put all of its time and resources to the Google+ and thus ending the scene of Orkut from the web.
“Over the past decade, YouTube, Blogger and Google+ have taken off, with communities springing up in every corner of the world. Because the growth of these communities has outpaced Orkut’s growth, we’ve decided to bid Orkut farewell,” this was the official statement that came out through official Orkut blog from the Google during their announcement for the end of Orkut three months ago.
The most popular and most important business over the web is now based on the social networks and this is where Google isn’t at its best because of Facebook. You can learn more about Orkut shutting down via this official webpage.
There was no official statement about the numbers of Orkut users after the shut down process. Off course, the number of users checking the Orkut profiles for the last time would have rose drastically, lets all come together and say good bye to our fellow buddy.
