HP’s take on MacBook Air – Say hi to HP Elitebook 1020 folio

From the day I’ve had feeling of getting a new laptop, my first priority had been MacBook because of its design, slimness, powerful software and not to forget, a long-life battery life. While some may argue that Windows machines have got excellent software support than Apple ones but they were never in the race of power efficiency. The battery life of MacBook had been its selling point but hopefully we all customers now got another option to choose. HP introduced a new laptop named EliteBook Folio 1020 which is one of the most power efficient Windows laptop ever and its surely going to provide MacBook a tough competition from the day it will be available for customers. Laptops under this series will be seriously built for business class and will be manufactured using premium material.

The HP EliteBook 1020 Special Edition weights just 1Kg measuring only 15.7 mm thin which makes it both lighter and slimmer than MacBook Air. Also it is manufactured using exclusive blend of magnesium-lithium alloy and reusable carbon fiber which offers it superb toughness. You can easily hope it to work fine after minor bumps or mishandling cases which are common. HP is claiming it to survive even through Military-Grade drop, shock and exposure to extreme temperature and humidity tests. (Insane!)

HP EliteBook 1020

VP & General Manager Alex Cho said, “The HP EliteBook1020 represents game-changing innovation in both materials and mechanical engineering to create the world’s thinnest and lightest business notebooks in a form factor that enables our customers to be more productive in more places. Customers demand not only a stylish, thin and light notebook, but also a device that delivers advanced security and can withstand the rigorous demands that come with a highly mobile lifestyle – and the HP EliteBook 1020 delivers this complete solution.”

So this is HP’s take on MacBook Air and no doubt as a user I’m definitely loving this first ever better competitor to what Apple had always been called ‘Best’.

The Specifications

These new laptops in the family lineup come with 12.5 inch of Quad-HD display which are available in two options (with and without Touchscreen). SSD storage (128 & 256GB) is standard within while the RAM storage ranges from 4-8GB.

Other essential features like 720p HD webcam on front and HD Audio with DTS Studio Sound are standard in every model. HP has also worked on a Noise-Reduction Software to offer better audio experience which is included within every laptop of this family.

Particularly the HP EliteBook 1020 is said to be powered by Intel Core M processor which clearly indicates that the laptop is fanless so there will be very few noises you can hear up while working rigorously. Another laptop in the family also runs on latest Intel Core processors which clearly mean that each of them will be providing better efficiency while consuming lesser power.

Additionally to make these laptops completely business-class notebooks, HP has added HP Client Management Solutions, BIOSphere features while LANDesk and Intel vPro features are optional to be selected by the user. All models are going to run different versions of Windows 8.1 operating system and I hope they will get Windows 10 upgrade.

HP Take on MacBook Air

Fingerprint scanner is mounted on each machine which is used to securely boot only the right user of that laptop and HP had also stated being providing lots of enterprise level of security features to protect both data and identity of users.

Last but not the least, the best and eye catching feature of each laptop of this new family is battery life of upto 9 hours with continuous usage. This much power is good enough to make sure you can complete a single day at work without searching your bag for the charger.

I’m not sure whether other additional features I added earlier above are going to help a business user that much or not but this good level of battery life which surely going to make an impact.

Coming New Year

As per the official press release, HP will start shipping these new business class laptops from the coming January while February is marked for the availability of HP EliteBook 1020 Standard Edition laptop.

This is definitely a great and strong attempt from world’s favorite PC maker and it is surely going to grab part of the pie which Apple is already sitting comfortably with.
