Google has finally announced that the Android 5.0 L would indeed be named as Android Lolipop; making it more sweeter than the earlier releases. There have been a lot of speculations and wild guesses about the Android L naming and with today’s announcements, all those speculations have come down to rest. The official announcement comes from the blog and the nexus specific webpage which also mentions about the new nexus devices that have been announced. Yes, Google has also announced Nexus 6 smartphone and Nexus 9 tablet.
The Nexus 6, successor to the Nexus 5; is manufactured by Motorola. The earlier rumors about the device being called shamu and having giant 5.9 inch display are true. The Google Nexus 6 will be released in market with Android 5.0 Lolipop on-board. The device will go on pre-order on October 27th, 2014. Talking about the specs, the device packs 5.9inch qHD AMOLED display with 493 ppi, Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 SoC along with Adreno 420 GPU. There is 13 megapixel camera at the back which would be capable of recording 4k resolution videos. The 2 megapixel camera at the front would be helpful in HD video calling. The battery power has been increased to 3220 mAh which would ideally be able to give a full day battery backup.
Google has introduced turbo charging which promises to increase the charging time of the device. According to the claim made by the company, the device would have enough battery power to last for 6 hours (with basic usage) if charged for just 15 minutes. Well, the claims need to verified and we would surely do that in our testing.
Nexus 9 – HTC is back!
The Nexus 9 is the all new android tablet from Google which is manufactured by HTC. The last time HTC was involved in nexus lineup was during the first few nexus devices and it looks like the manufacturer is coming back on track. Talking about the specifications of this tablet, it packs 8.9 inch IPS LCD display with 4:3 aspect ratio and 2048×1536 resolution. The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 and there is this feature that can wake up your tablet with double tap. The tablet has got 64 bit Tegra K1 processor on-board and 2 GB of RAM. As always, the device would be available in bunch of variants such as WiFi only, LTE and storage specific variants. Talking about the camera, it has got 8 megapixel shooter at back and 1.6 megapixel shooter at front. Remember those dual speakers with boom sound technology that HTC has adopted for quite a few devices? Well, its here with Nexus 9 as well.
Android 5.0 Lolipop – Full Changelog
Android 5.0 Lolipop brings a complete overhaul to the animations. The design is being called as Material design which is buttery smooth, brings realistic shadows, vivid new colors and excellent typography.
Android 5.0 Lolipop has got improved notifications panel. The quick toggles and the way in which you can simply silent the phone is quite amusing. With this, you can view and respond to the messages directly from the lockscreen. And off course, it comes with an ability to hide sensitive information. The incoming phone calls would simply be there without interrupting your on-going tasks.
The battery saving improvements brings a feature that can extend your phone’s battery by up to 90 minutes. The estimated remaining time to fully charge the device is being shown on the lockscreen. Additionally, there are some minor improvements that we would be able to test in the final release.
