Moto E vs Micromax Unite 2 A106

The two big competitors, Moto and Micromax have recently released their Android smartphones in low budget segment. Moto E was released few weeks ago and has lot of demand online. Only Flipkart has exclusive rights to sell Moto E and it has gone out of stock 3 times till now. Clearly, Moto is now a tough competitor for others in low budget segment as well. On the other hand Micromax just released Micromax Unite 2 A106, a competitor to Moto E which not only has good specs as well as looks. This comparison is going to be different from all other comparisons which we have done till now. So, let’s see what these devices bring for their costumers and which device is a better buy. The battle Moto E vs Micromax Unite 2 A106, begins..

Moto E vs Micromax Unite 2 A106

Micromax Unite 2 features a 4.7” IPS WVGA (800x 480 pixels) display with the pixel density of 199 ppi. That means the images on device will not be crisp and everything will look bigger as compared to 4.3″ inches of Moto E with the resolution of 540 x 960 pixels (256ppi). Moto E has smaller display with higher resolution which clearly makes it a winner. Moto E also has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 which protects the display from scratches.

Winner: Moto E

Processor and Graphics

Both the devices have 1GB of RAM but have different processors. Moto E has dual core qualcomm’s snapdragon 200 CPU, whereas Micromax Unite 2 embraces quad core MediaTek MT6582M CPU. I am not a big fan of MediaTek and have always avoided it. Qualcomm on the other hand has better processing and multitasking capabilities. Though, the Moto E has only dual core CPU I would still give this fight a tie.

Talking about the GPU, Unite 2 has Mali-400MP2 and Moto E has Adreno 305. Both the GPU’s are capable of providing low to medium details in heavy games like Raptide GP2. So, this is difficult to pick one amongst the two.

Winner: Tie

Micromax Unite E embraces square edge form factor with candy bar look whereas Moto E carries tradition look inherited from Moto G and Moto X. Both the devices come with different back plates with eye catching colors. Moto E has an advantage of having replaceable back panels which adds more points in its bucket. In my opinion Moto E has better looks than Micromax Unite 2.

Winner: Moto E

Moto E comes with vanilla Android and has minimal or I can say no bloat installed in it unlike Micromax Unite E. Unite 2 has custom software on top of Android 4.4.2 which makes it less valuable. The icons and other parts of UI doesn’t look good and I prefer Stock Android over it. The future updates for Unite 2 has a big question mark whereas on the other hand Moto has promised at least on software update for Moto E.

Winner: Moto E

In terms of capacity both the devices have pretty much the same battery.  Unite 2 has 2000 mAh battery as compared to 1980 mAh of Moto E. Though, Moto E gives more battery backup than Unite 2 as the obvious reason is the screen size. Bigger the screen, more battery it consumes.

Winner: Moto E

Micromax Unite 2 has two camera’s front and rear (with LED flash) unlike Moto E. Moto E has only rear camera without flash. Both devices have 5MP primary camera which clicks average quality photos. Surprisingly Micromax Unite 2 is capable of recording 720p HD video which is no available in Moto E. Moto E can record videos upto 480p only, which is definitely a disappointment.

Winner: Micromax Unite 2

After Sales Service

As Moto is new in India (they stopped selling smartphones in India few years ago), it doesn’t have service centres in small cities. Moto is good in terms of after sales service and I am quite satisfied with personal experience. Micromax is not as good as other manufacturers in terms of after sales service and I have heard lots of complaints about them. However, when it comes to the after sales service, it is not about how many complains customers have; it is about how many of them company is resolving and both seem to be doing  just average here.

Winner: Tie

Resale Value

“Brand speaks for itself”, so there can’t be another winner here except Moto E. When it comes to resale value, brand value matters and Moto E wins in this section without any doubt.

Winner: Moto E

Other features

Other features like FM radio, dual sim capabilities, internal storage and storage expansion slots are pretty much the same in both the devices. There are actually no differences whatsoever.

Winner: Tie

Hands down to Moto E, there is no other smartphone which can beat this device in its price range. In upcoming days, it will be difficult for other manufactures to compete with this smartphone. It has everything which a low budget device should have except few things like LED flash and front facing camera. But at the price of Rs 6999, this device is best buy.

    Not valid

  • sree

SAR value is very high in moto E which is not at all discussed here.

    • Yes, SAR value is quite high in Moto E but that is still acceptable and wouldn’t make much difference to the overall comparison.

Well Vishal, you will see a promotion either way. If not for Moto e, you might say it for Micromax.
