So finally Micromax has launched its Yu brand in India. The first device launched under the brand is Micromax Yu aka Yureka, which seems to be an option good enough to entice its buyers. The smartphone has been priced at Rs. 8,999 and following the trend will be sold exclusively on Amazon India’s website through a sale on January 13th at 2:00 PM. However, registrations for the sale have started today around 3 hours ago (after 2:00 PM) and company’s also willing to gift a leather pouch worth Rs. 999 to some lucky buyers who register before 25th of December.
Coming to the Specs, Yureks seems to be a good offering. There’s enough processing power packed into the phone and camera specs also seem enticing enough. However, if you’re a pixel freak you may be disappointed with the low pixel density of device. But hey, hang on. The thing that makes this smartphone stand out is CyanogenMod OS, which company claims will receive Android Lollipop based update of OS before anyone else. Heck, the company’s even saying that this one smartphone will continue to receive OTA updates every month. This thing may upset OnePlus because despite the promise of providing updates to its One smartphone users in India Cyanogen seems to be taking better care of Micromax.
The technical specs sheet of smartphone looks like this:
Micromax Yu – Specifications
- 5-inch 720p HD display with resolution of 267ppi
- 64-bit 1.5GHz Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor
- Adreno 405 GPU
- 2GB of RAM
- 13 megapixel primary camera
- 5 megapixel secondary camera
- 16 GB inbuilt storage
- Expandable storage up to 32GB
- Dual-SIM support, LTE, Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth
- And finally, a 2500 mAh battery that company claims can provide up to 7 hours on LTE and up to 210 hours on standby.
Despite the small disappointment in display department, specs are powerful enough for a 9k bucks smartphone. And as I said above, it’s not the technical specs sheet that makes this smartphone a steal deal – it’s Cyanogen OS 11.
Now, if you didn’t yet use the Cyanogen OS you may be wondering what’s so great about it, right? Well, there’s so much great that I could write a whole new blog post to define it. But to keep it short and sweet, Cyanogen OS is a great OS built on strong foundation of Android, which provides much more features than you could ever find on any other version of Android – especially in terms of personalization and security.
In case you didn’t register for the sale on January 13th and are willing to do it, here’s the link. Do it quickly for increasing your chances of winning the leather pouch.
