When Google partnered with Spice, Lava and Karbonn for the very first range of Android One smartphones in India, perhaps one of the biggest drivers of their sales was the promise of latest OS updates for 2 years. And while that didn’t happen as quickly as it used to happen on Nexus devices, still it seems like the time has finally arrived. Spice Mobiles recently confirmed via a Facebook post the roll out of Android 5.1 Lollipop update for Spice Dream Uno smartphone users.
Android One device users were expecting an update from quite sometime because the update had already been rolled out for several other devices. And while it was certain that they’ll receive the update as Google had confirmed it at the time of product launch, still the timing of update was unclear. No one really knew that when will Lollipop update be rolled out for Android One devices, which were initially running KitKat. But now that has started to happen, and the first manufacturer in this race is Spice, which actually touted this fact quite proudly. Prashant Bindal, COO of Spice Mobiles recently told press that in-line with their brand promise of “Always the latest”, they’re delighted to be the first player to roll out Lollipop update for their Android One device users.
Android One smartphones have already been praised a lot for the features they offer at highly affordable prices. Now combined with the material design philosophy, enhanced security and improved stability of Lollipop, they’ll be able to give even more serious competition to other similar offerings available in the market. It won’t be wrong to expect a jump in sales of Spice Dream Uno after people come to know that it’s upgradable to Lollipop. In case you didn’t buy this smartphone yet because of KitKat but are now interested in purchasing it, here’s a quick recall of its specs: It has got 1.3 GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, 4.5-inches large display with resolution of 480 x 854 pixels, 5MP primary camera and 2MP secondary camera.
Recently Google had also announced that the roll out of Lollipop update for Android One users is about to begin. So users of other Android One devices (Micromax Canvas A1 and Karbonn Sparkle V) can also expect an update in upcoming days.
The update is being rolled out Over-the-Air, so you might already have received a notification by now. However, if you haven’t, try checking for update manually either by switching off your phone and turning it on again or by navigating to Settings >> About phone >> Software update.
